One of the more confusing terms used in custom picture framing is one that even framers have to think twice about when using for fear of conjuring up images of a tasty cut of beef, is FILLET - pronounced FILLIT.
Simply stated, a frame FILLET is a miniature moulding that is placed on the inside opening of a mat, which enhances the image being framed. A frame fillet often emulates some of the characteristics of the actual frame surrounding the picture - creating a repeat of the pattern or color of the main frame.
They come in a variety of shapes, finishes, and widths - and can often add a sense of depth that a mat alone is not able to.
